The best art I've produced has followed one rule: draw what you see. I remember I hearing that in grade school from my art teacher. "vodun, draw what you see, not what you think you see." I follow that rule to this day and produce accurate depictions of what I want. Also, don't draw using the computer, it goes against tradition and allows for little control of the tools and medium.
